Im building a 20 gal long sump for my 90 gal. LFS owner says to use the bag sock filter with ceramic rings. Ive herd these bags are for saltwater only.

Its a freash water tank and it has really high nitrates cuz its over stocked and i feed all live food. I really want to chose the best design for my sump to get the most cleaning power.

should i go with this sock bag filter or a bio ball set up?

Ceramic rings are designed to hold bacteria under water for both fresh AND saltwater. Bio balls are designed for out of water use.

How have you designed your sump? Here is my suggestion below.

You could even double up on the racks and run an good amount of bio media. :)

NOTE: If you have high levels of nitrAte, you need to perform more water changes more frequently. Very few things will remove nitrAte and the best and cheapest thing is you.

If your nitrates are high, you might want to look into plants/ drip system

+1 for drawer tower

those wet/dry trickle-tower sumps are simple and cheap to make. best bang for your buck and they work great. also a breeze to slide open a drawer and change/replace media when needed.
