Im getting a 155 gallon bowfront tank and I want to make my previous 40 gallon tank a sump. what would be the easiest, most affordable way to do this? I'm basically asking for a DIY that i can't find anywhere else. thanks!

look for DIY pcv overflows. easy and cheap to make. hardest part of building a sump is getting the water from your tank to the sump properly.
after you figure that out, look at different style sumps and see what works for you.

PVC overflows like the ones in the sticky on this forum.
Plastic pot scrubbies/scour pads for bio media.
your choice of pump
you have the expensive part the sump.

The tank is drilled, No PVC overflows needed. he's looking for Sump layouts. Something he can do with the 40G underneath that won't break the bank.

in that case, are you familiar with a trickle tower wet/dry setup? can be made using a set of plastic drawers from walmart. probably the easiest, most efficient bang for your buck.

This is what I did:

4 drawer from Walmart

Drilled holes in the bottom of every drawer.
1st drawer acts as a drip plate.
2nd drawer holds my filter pads

3rd drawer holds my bio media (Still need to get some more to fill it)

And I took out the 4th drawer for my pump to sit

I used a rubbermaid container that was just sitting around as a sump, you would just use your 40g.
I'm sure there is just about every sump idea posted on this website. You just need to take the time and search.
