Hello

I just set up this 60 gallon tank for some mixed africans. I just want to see how i am doing since this is going to me my first non SA/CA tank.
now i know soome about these fish but not much specifics. so help is apreciated.

Stock list:

1-3" frontosa
3-3" unknown please id pics uploaded
4-2" Ast peacock males
1-4" male calico ob peacock
1-4" palmas
2-3" syno multi

also i wanted to add crushed coral, would it be ok to add it after the fish are in? or will it change the ph to fast?

should there be a strong current?

do these fish need more rocks or do i have enough?

best temperature? its at 76 now same as my house.

best ph for them?

all the fish get along currently in another tank that is acctually smaller and less decorated. please no overstocking suggestiong, this is mfk!

thanks

The fish in the first picture look like Astatotilapia latifasciata. They are sold in most pet stores under the incorrect name of Haplocromis obliquidens. It looks like you have two males. Would be better if you had one male and several females. AC males of the same species tend to battle each other for supremacy. Your rockwork looks very nice. Frontosa probably will get too big for this setup. They are also slower eaters so it may have trouble competing for dinner with your other fish. I think you have a decent setup, but you need a better stocklist. Probably could do ok if you at least dropped the frontosa.

well i picked out all males for this tank because i heard if it were all males the agression wouldnt be so bad. is that not true?

my next tank is def a front tank at 6ft at least so i will have a home for him soon. just waiting for a good deal.

also is there a way to check o2 level?

I wouldn't necessarily say that aggression will be low in an all male tank (mainly for more color than aggression issues), it's alot of work and trial and error to get the right mix (and alot of back and forth trips to a breeder or an lfs), a correctly set up breeding tank in my experience is on a alot lower aggression scale though.

I wouldn't mix lakes either, right now you have 3 different lakes mixed together.

Well i have a gaggle of tanks running in the garage, tank space isnt an issue really, i could separate all of these fish into a separate tank if i had to :)

what fish are in what lake? id like to do just the front and peacocks. would that work better? i really like the frontosa he is so melo and fun to watch he will eat outa my hand!

btw i just used the kenyi to cycle/test the tank there not in there anymore.

I concur with this opinion. My tank is a 180 all male tank. I can tell you from my experience that there is alot of aggressive bevavior and it is required to remove all my decor from time to time to remove problem fish to sell them back to the lfs. All male tanks are not impossible-just alot of work and observation. You would still need a well thought out stocklist. I stocked mine along the same line as yours initially and I can tell you right now it was a mistake. You would be much better off starting off with a more reasonable stock list rather than learning what one is by trial and error. An all male tank will probably require some trial and error regardless of what you initially stock.

I agree with Schneider, I have an all male 150 gallon. A LOT of trial and error. I love the look of fronts, but they just don't do well with wild and crazy mbunas.....
