Hi Guys,

I had water in my tank for TWO weeks (No filter, no heater, no nothing... just water..gravel...driftwood).... I started cycling my tank 5 days ago..with API Nutrafin Cycle.

My results read:

Ammonia = 0 (I did not have ONE ammonia spike, during the entire cycle... is it possible my tank started cycling while water was in it normally?!?)

Nitrates = 10

Nitrite = 0

Like I said...water is a bit cloudy... Drift wood and gravel was in it 2 weeks ago with water, but I added not one THING to it...until 5 days ago... 5 days ago ... I did the Nutrafin Cycle...and some Gravel from my old aquarium.. (a handful only)

60 gallon tank.

Please advise

Its not fully cycled. U will see an ammonia spike after a nitrite spike. Having plain water in ur tank w/o food or fish will do nothing! U basically wasted 2 weeks, put some feeders in it or a couple pieces of raw shrimp to feed the ammonia

Is it cloudy for any specific reason? whitish cloud

Id say ammonia spike cuz when ive cycled and my ammonia reading are <.2ppm my water gets cloudy but that may not be the case. Buy a dozen feeders from ur lfs and feed em normally and in 1-2weeks ull be good to go.

It could be from the api cycle stuff too idk never used a chem to cycle. Hang in there and be patient and make sure you have PLENTY OF CERAMIC BIO TO HOUSE UR BB

without adding ammonia, you get nothing. how do the beneficial bacteria grow and prosper if you don't feed them. add to that that your filter isn't running so they can't grow there, which is where you want them to grow since that's where you get the maximum water flow.
run up to your drugstore and buy some ammonia and add a teaspoon to your FULLY setup and running tank.when you start to see the levels drop in your test kit add another. when it's fully cycled you should get no ammonia results the day after you add it.
that's when it's cycled and you can add fish. if the fish are small, you can add multiple fish at once as long as you don't overdo it, if they're larger you add them one at a time until the bacteria can catch up.
