Hi Guys im planning abit of a change around this will be long so pay attention to the detail.

I currently have a 72 x 24 x 30 high and a 84 x 24 x 24 they are both upstairs in my bedroom so im quite cramped so have decided to get rid of my 6ft. A friend suggested that i keep the 6ft due to the extra height as if means i could get an asian aro that i want and the bass as they get taller could swim over top of each other which they struggle to do in the 2ft tall 7ft tank. Changing them to the 6ft would give the following benefits.

I could take off the blue background and put a black one that i have always wanted

I could put black sand in that i have always wanted

I would need to finish the stand therefore putting nice cuboards in that i can access under the tank which i cannot do on the 7ft

A hood needs building but i wanted it flat at the front (my 7ft slopes down) so i could fit 1 of the lights at the very front of the tank as when fish are up the glass in the 7ft they get a slight shadow as they are closer than the light

It has a weir and is drilled if i ever wanted to convert to a sump (currently using a sump but too noisy)

The stand is taller so i could fit my FX5 and other filters under (currently next to my 7ft taking up more space)

I would gain a ft in length due to the tank being shorter

Would probably gain another ft in length as the tank wouldnt need space for canisters as they go underneath i would be able to push it flush against the 1 wall

Downsides are as follows;

The 6ft is only 10mm so not as strong

The stand is something i built so not as sturdy as the 7ft stand

I would have to take off the blue paint without scratching the glass???

where it currently sits there is a crack in the ceiling below, this has always been there but has got larger since introducing the tank, this may be to me overflowing my sump when first setting up so may just be cosmetic hopefully.

I would want to move the 6ft against the other wall which is the wall for the outside of the house where it is stronger, it currently sits in the middle of the house, i.e on the middle of a beam = the weakest part?

The issue would be keeping 700 - 800 litres of water and my bass while i literally swop the tanks around? Im hitting a brick wall with this 1 guys so could really do with your help? Any details iv missed out just shout and il answer, I did think of putting all fresh water in and keeping them in poly boxes for an hour while i move it around but would dechlorinater make the water safe would it not be too much of a swing in chemistry, i currenly do not use dechlorinator at the moment with no issues even with my sting rays but i have always tried to move fish with some of their own water.

What is the question? Are you deciding which tank you should keep? Sorry i did read your post but its kinda all over the place.

yeah it is, im just trying to get it all in.. Im asking which tank i should keep i am thinking the 6ft at the moment and then im asking how i should swop them around?

ok.. you're in Birmingham.. where there is more water in the ground than dirt.. and you're brave enough to keep a 210 gallon tank upstairs?

i'm going nuts trying to find a house that i can afford that has a living space in a finished basement with a concrete foundation so i can set up my aquariums when i get there.

ok, my opinion.. would be to keep the 210, no matter how you decide to configure the filtration. on the lower level, preferably on concrete.

I'll give you call later to discuss your options. Personally I'd keep the 7x2x2. Also if you use sand your gonna get it in your filters all the time.

Tim it doesnt matter now the worst of the worst happened out of nowhere i heard a bit bang i was in bed next to it i saw the arowana dart and fish move out of his way so assumed he tried to jump and hit the cover glass carried on my computer at 7:55 in the morning before getting up to get ready for work and i just saw little trickles of water appear from under the tank :O the base had just cracked out of nowhere my only though is that there has been movement in the floor or in the actual stand itself as it wasnt the sturdiest :( i now have a 2ft aro in with my cichla :O hes doing fine though i had to catch him in a pillowcase he was going wild standing up vertical in 6" of water all this before work needless to say i was late. all fish are doing fine now though my friend has most of them and i was going to move most of them to my girlfriends to grow anyway just some geo a few small ocell and a few small silvers, the only issue im left with is the rays are back in with the cichla which can cause problems also it is possible for the aro to escape the 7 x 2 x 2 so i better get the cover glass out the loft first thing in the morning and box him back in, second thoughts its not even worth the risk of waiting until morning is it il do it now! all night after work i have been smashing the tank up and taking it away then cleaning shards of glass up from all over the place i have sand everywhere it was a nightmare finally got it sorted and just climbed into a fresh bed as all my bed sheets were ruined :( will be a late reply from me tomorrow buddy im at college until late after work :( least my room is tidy though all cleaned up and no trace left
