Nice looking tank. I'm in the process of doing basically the same thing except a 75 and 120 to a 265. Would like help as well. I have 2 FX5s to switch over to mine. Good looking tank btw.

Are you talking instant transfer or over time? Are you going to use the same filtration equipment?

Ideally you would have both tanks set up at the same time. You could seed the new tank with something cycled (sponge) from the old tank, and give it a few weeks to do a cycle, and then add the fish slowly over another few weeks to avoid shocking the system.

If you are doing it instantly with the same sump just stop feeding the fish for a few days, put them in a big holding container, re build your system with the new tank, and add fish. If its the same sump and same bio load you'd be in a decent spot, though feed lightly for a few weeks since you'll have lost the bacteria on the rocks and such.

If you are looking to do it instantly with a new filtration system, don't. You'll have dead fish.

Very nice tank by the way, looks crystal clear!!!

1. I am gonna scoop up all gravel from 72 gallon and put in 155 gallon
2. All decor and rocks placed in 155 gallon
3. Fill 155 gallon about half way
4. Transfer over all filters let them run for a while
5. Final step transfer Fish & the 72 gallons of water to 155 gallon.

This sounds good, although you can skip step 5, there's not much if any beneficial bacteria in the water column, so all you'd be doing is adding dirty water.

If you're moving the substrate, decor and filters then you should be fine (as long as you don't let any of it dry out during the switch). Your main concern is to make sure the temp and ph is similar between the 2 tanks before moving any fish. It may even be a good idea to drip acclimate your stock if you're putting them in a temporary container during the move.

Good luck and make sure to post pics when its done!

Ok so skip adding old water? I figure I should act like this is a HUGE water change then. So much more depth that 155 gallon bow can't wait for Oscar and madison to swim freely! lol.

Probably not a big deal, but if you have to use dechlorinater I would probably fill the tank and add the dechlorinater while filling before I added the gravel and decor. That way you don't risk the new water killing off any beneficial bacteria that may be on the gravel or decor.

Most of your bacteria is in the sump. I'd take this transfer as an opportunity to clean the gravel. If it were me I would put the fish in buckets, rinse out the gravel then put it in the new tank. Fill the new tank with water. Condition it. Get the filter going. Then drop the fish in. Your current tank is very cool looking.
