i have a 20 gallon long aquarium, it used to have fish but they have been moved into another tank, i dont know if they are out there, but i would like to get a turtle that can live in a 20 gallon long aquarium for the span of its whole life, my max price for this tutle is going to be 50$, i have 2, 20 gallon filters on the aquarium, and airator, a standard light for fish ( i dont know if tutrles need a heat lamp?) and dift wood decor etc...

if there is anything in particular i need to get like a heat lamp, please inform me

(:irked:sorry camera not working at the moment:irked:)

The smallest species of turtle you could keep in there would be a Stinkpot Musk Turtle but even that one should have more space as an adult.

Yeah that tank is much too small for a turtle's ENTIRE life. for temporary, you could get a baby.....well pretty much anything, but you'd have quite some upgrading to do. Turtles DEFINITELY need a heat lamp. They also need a piece of land above water, for basking, preferably right below the lamp. PM me if you need more help

Depends on the species. My Stinkpot has just enough space to climb out to get completely dry but he never comes out of the water anymore. Some species don't need a basking area at all while other semi aquatic species do best 50:50 ratio land to water. It really depends on what species you're thinking about getting.

i believe there is a reeves species that doesnt get very large, but I would think even a Reeves wouldnt be extremely happy in anything smaller than a 40G. All turltes need UVA/UVB lamps. Or direct sunlight (no glass in between)

To be blunt, I think you are the wrong person to care for a turtle . This is only based on your questions above, but you seem to be looking at what YOU want from a turtle.

These animals require much care and attention when they are young. Even when they get more stable, they require sulfa-baths, constant water changes and a highly varied diet. They live VERY long lives and can make tanks messy. Futhermore, it is illiegal and unethical to dump turtles in a lake, river or pond when you are no longer able to care for them.

Just some things to think about

Well instead of a fish tank why don't you consider using a rubbermaid tub. They're cheap and come in many different sizes. Also livestock water tanks make great aquatic turtle enclosures.

go with vicous on this one...A stink pot musk turtle is your best bet

Thanks buddy! :D

My 40 gallon Stinkpot turtle tub. I could probably keep him in here for life but I will probably go a size bigger when he reaches adult size. Right now he's less then 3 inches in length.
