help with water qaulity!!!!

i have a 60g and i only got power filters. i got an ehiem and a 800l/h one in it.

any ways y does my water smell fishy???? it smells after at least a week.

do canister filters take the fishy smells out????
any help would be very great. thankyou

What is your water change routine? Make sure you clean the filters once a month. They can collect un-eaten food and debri.

my water changes are every 2 weeeks i have to do 100 percent. i dont over feed at all. and some times i use live foods like wild guppies as a treat. i clean filters every week. any help?? just get a canister???

if your water smells after one week, id say start doing weekly water changes or use carbon.

I wouldnt recomend 100 percent water changes.

well you are sure its the water thats smelling? if so perhaps a 50% water change followed by another 50%change in a few days.i dont think that will hurt anything.any chance your smell is coming from the hood?

might check and clean your gravel a little,but not the whole aquarium floor,just a little at a time.good replies so far.you can probably use some carbon as was previously suggested.

back in the 60's when i first started to keep fish i had the same problem you have.my water was polluted from overfeeding and not enough water changes.good luck.allwet.........

use more charcoal dont do anything more than 40 percent keep the lighting down and feed more algea spirulina than protein foods this will help keep waste down clean those filters once a week and get some type of biological filter going

YEA DON'T DO 100% WATER CHANGES...40% WEEKLY IS SUFFICIENT...OVERCLEANING FILTERS ARENT A GOOD IDEA EITHER MAYBE ONCE A MONTH...DEPENDS REALLY ON HOW MUCH FISH U GOT IN THERE IS IT OVERSTOCKED? IN WHICH CASE U MAY NEED MORE FILTRATION
