ummm... ok!!
so i placed a order this afternoon for my new tank 60"L x 32"W x 17"H ( with Charlie at THE FISH TANK FACTORY) MY question is im thinking of building a sump to run on this with a FX5 but still undecided yet if to go with a sump or add another FX5 cuz im restricted to space under the stand ANYWAYS im thinking of having 2 holes drilled in the back wall incase i decide to build a sump.. i will be placing my intake for the FX5 in one corner and the FX5 output in the opposite like it currently is soooo my questions are:

1. where should i place the holes at?

2. how far apart and far down from the top edge?

3. should i go with 2 holes for the intake to the sump? and 1 for the return or just 2 for the intake and run a hose over the edge for the return? i was also thinking of making a DIY spraybar for the return instead of the 3rd hole!?

the reason im thinking of having the holes installed on the back is beacause to drill holes in the bottom i gotta upgrade to 3/4" and thats more $$ i dont really have and also with the occupants im kinda worried they would get stuck to the intakes.

thanks

Talk with Zennzzo. He is quite experience with drilling tanks and locations. You also might look into www.glass-holes.com, they have cool mountable overflow boxes. Zen will fill you in.

Yes, www.Glass-Holes.com has excellent mountable overflows. Depending on which pump you select for the amount of turnover you desire, they have different sizes.
Drilling the glass and Mounting the overflow is straight forward and simple.
As a rule I try to go 1 size up from the size needed to handle the rated GPH on the pump. This way in case of any obstruction, potential flooding is reduced...
Make sure to talk to MIKE, he'll be happy to set you up for what you need. Have all you tank info ready like size, pump, desired turnover rate etc and he'll know right what you'll need for the overflows...

On my 120 I have the FX5 intake on one end and the outlet on the other end on the back wall. I'm using 3/4inch bulkheads slip x thread. Outside the tank I have a short 3/4" nipple with a 3/4" FPT x 3/4" hose barb fitting that will fit the stock FX5 hose. Be sure to use hoseclamps on both ends of the FX5 hose.

cool thank u VERY MUCH!:headbang2
since the tank is being built still should i just have them cut the holes? ( I SEEN THE VIDEO ON THERE SITE SEEMS EASY ENOUGH) but the sump is something that wont be happening for another month or so! so it would be easier to have the tank co cut them already have them done and plugged until i get around to building a sump OR should i just wait and do it myself just to besure the hole will be in the right location when the time comes? a 10x turn over for a 140 gallon should be good right?

do u have a pics of the way u have ur fx5 setup? i would like to see

actually after looking i think i would go with the same one u did..

Good choice, the kit comes with the hole saw for glass and the jig for drilling them...depending on where you want your water line that is how far down the back you want your holes...I would wait and do it yourself...personally I'm anal about putting holes in my tank and do not trust anybody else to do it...

As far as the FX5 setup I'll see what I can put together for you...It might be a minute because I am in the process of moving the tanks room to room...

I THINKK i will wait on them drilling the holes then only cuz i dont have exact measurement as where to tell them to drill them and dont want them located in wrong spot or off alittle.. i personally am VERY SCARED TO HAVE TO DO IT for my first time on MY FIRST BRAND NEW TANK!:WHOA::nilly: but have no choice!!

this will be a good learning experience for me :D hopefully not expensive!!!!!!

that would be great when u get a chance to see what u can do on pics of ur fx5 setup

thanks
