The land of the pine
First it was Redfin pickerel, then baby bowfin, and now it's hognose sucker. I need to catch one for my pickerel tank. I know they are in a local river, but I haven't the slightest clue how to catch one. I don't have a seine net and I can't buy one because I'm saving my money for the bowfin pond I'm building. Could I catch one on a hook and line? Any advice will be much appreciated.

You can catch them on worms but you have to land the worm right infront of the fishes mouth. Not easy to catch on hook and line

Yeah I've heard that. I think you'd have to sight fish to catch one. I haven't actually seen one in the water, I just find dead one washed up every few months. I really wish I hadn't lost my cast net.

How about a self-made fish trap?
Like a minnow trap? How would you make one? I used to have a minnow trap before it got stolen lol. All my collecting tools end up lost or stolen...

You can pick up a cheap casting net at walmart for like $30 and keep it tied to ur waist so no one steals it lol
Like I said earlier I'm Gunna have to use what I've got. All my money right now is being saved for my second pond.

Put a couple lines In the water with worms on them and hope for the best, or you can turn into bear grylls and make some sort of trap out of the land
Yeah I guess that's what I'm going to do as of now unless someone has any other ideas. I like the bear grylls thing but I don't want to drink my own pee lol.

E-mail Jonahs aquarium who specialized in Dipnets for collecting natives (they have over 20yrs experience in catching and breeding natives).
