Hey folks! Just looking for a bit of help/info/suggestions? After a 4 year long process of trying to breed EBJD's the right way. I have my first successful group of EBJD's growing out currently. 70 in total! Everything has been going great but I noticed last night that have all/majority been huddled in the corner of the tank. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas why they are acting this way all of a sudden? Or if anyone has experienced something similar? Thanks in advance for any input!

Hahaha...but seriously! Lol...just did a 50% water change thinking it may be an ammonia spike or something. Definitely hasn't had any immediate effects though.

They should bounce back. I have seen this behaviour on large water changes with my juvis as well. No real concern. Just ensure you are using dechlorinator during large water changes.... it may also have something to do with a low dissolve oxygen level in incoming water change.

Thank you for the response but the behavior started before the water change. A large water change was my hopeful solution.

Well..still no change. Was really hoping the water change would right them around. I've never had issues with my water so I don't even own a test kit so I guess I'll be picking one up after work today! May just use this as a reason/opportunity to re-do the whole tank.

I'm with the others, my first suspicion would be something off with the water, unless there's been some other change in the tank?

Well I finally got a test kit and ammonia was a bit high but not unsuitable but I got some carbon/ammonia removing stuff for the filter anyways. Only other thing I changed was an upgraded heater because I was having trouble with inconsistent temps. I wouldn't think that would stress them out the way they seem to be.

Too much temp fluctuation can definitely stress fish, depending how wide the swings are or if temps get out of their comfort zone.

Ammonia can definitely cause the behavior you're seeing, even in relatively low amounts. It's best to consider anything more than 0 ammonia as unsuitable. Small amounts of ammonia may not immediately kill your fish, but it does stress them or can cause damage if it's more than a short term issue. Plus, remember that EBJDs are fragile in the first place AND yours still look fairly small, adding to the fragility factor. I'd consider anything beyond 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and low to moderate nitrates as unacceptable and in need of a quick remedy-- that's basically standard for any fish imo, but even more important for your EBJD juvies.
