I bought this arowana a month back for my Dad's b-day.... so we're first timers with arowana....

I currently have a 55gall tank with an Ephiem 2213 filer..... the water condition in this 55 gall is about 2 weeks now, also we put sand on the bottom to prevent the arowana from seeing its own reflection...

the temperate inside the tank is about 70 degress F. For about a month now the young arowana has been hanging inside a very small 1 gall tank, (we needed to prepare for the big tank).. so far its been fine.. but.. last night we decided it was great to put the young arowana into its new 55 gall home..

Now the fish was fine until around 2am... my dad woked me up this morning at 8 am and we found the young arowana sank to the bottom of the tank... i've been looking at forums for a month now and know that this is a VERY BAD SIGN...

So we moved it back into its original tank, since the water condition was still what it was used to.. I've also added rock salt to the mini tank and added more air stone to keep the water oxygen rich....

But i dont know if my arowana will make it through... Plz can anyone give me advice????

PS: i also notice that the arowana vomit out some shrimp meat i feed it last night.. there is no shell, just your regular market shrimp... I dunno if that shrimp is bad or if it ate some gravel in the tank, but it vomit the meat out..

Could it be a disease that is making this arowana uncomfortable???

The temperature is too low. The temperature should be around high 70's to low 80's The 55g won't last the Aro long as well. Just so you know...it'll probably outgrow that tank in a matter of months depending how big the Aro is already.

is the 55gal cycled? raise the temp as well. raise it to 78 to 82...

Should not feed the aro before moving. Fed it, it stressed and vomited, and destroyed the water of the 55 gall ( which was not ready yet, in terms of cycling, I believe ).

On top of that, there is NO WAY you can filter a 55 gallon ( or any other tank, for that matter) with a 2213 Eheim filter.

As to temps, all has been said already

Test the water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate's and post them here. Dont move the fish, way too much stress is capable of killing the fish. Turn the lights off and slowly raise te temperature raise the temperature in the 55 gallon tank. (1-2 degree's every 12 hours) If your water parameters are showing any ammonia or nitrite do a water change with warm water. Try to get the water temp as close to the temp in the tank.

I keep my arrow at 88, cycle the 55 for bout month check water parameters and try adding live plants driftwood from a established tank and for light keep one side lit 24 7 during cycling period dude upgrade yer filtering systems.

one thing to check is when your turning the heat up by a few degrees and more is that your water should be clean before doing so. ammonia gets more toxic to the fish when its warmer and also when the Ph is higher. find out what the differences between the two tanks where so you may know next time what the fish doesnt like. it may have been temperature difference. you havent said much about what may have been bad in the new tank but think about it and you might work it out. a fish should move ok from worse water to better water without too much problem. 2 weeks isnt enough time for a system to be called cycled. possible your fish was already stressing and you put it over the edge upon moving it.

Looks to me that you really have no business keeping fish at all, let alone an arowana. Did ya ever think to research anything a little bit? Obviously not, you have no idea on how to cycle a tank, or what it even means. Arowana at 70 degrees, are you kidding me? Not to mention putting ANY TYPE FISH in a one gallon tank.

Sorry if I am being an @$$, but really I hate seeing fish so mistreated.

everybody has to start, one day. He made several mistakes, but, at least, is caring enough to try to sort things out.

Use the advice received zerojquan.
