Ok so I have talked to 3 people in 2 different stores about a planted aquarium. I have a 55 gal with glass tops. I recently got a coral life t5 double fixture that has one 6700K light and a full spec. light in it. I was told to add a plant substrate (not laterite) to my tank, and that I could just dump it in and my fish would be ok. They also advised me to use a rio 400 pump with sponge attatchment and it would be all the filtration I need. I bought 5 jungle vassernilas to put in my tank. Ok here are the params on my tank
55 gal
gravel substrate (about 50 lbs)
rio 400 pump and sponge
penguin 200 HOB filter
T5 double 48" light
7 von rio tetras
3 emperor tetras
4 med angelfish
1 3" BN pleco
3 pieces of driftwood
5 vals (about 18" tall)
0 ammonia, NO2, NO3
pH 8.0
GH 8 degrees
KH 10 degrees
temp 82 degrees F
I don't know if I got good advice because I called another store and they told me I need the penguin 300 filter I also have so my fish don't die.... I am frustrated and at a loss for what to do. All I want is to have a planted tank that is pretty and no plastic plants that I do not need a CO2 machine for.....
