hey, could use a little help here. I've got a spotted gar that ive had for a little over a year now...getting pretty big and ive never had any health issues with it. But all the sudden i came home today and almost his entire body had a white discoloration and now he seems week just kind of floating side ways and straight up and down...like i said i have had him for a while but i still dont know a whole lot about illnesses and how to treat them. so if anyone out there can help me out here i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

do you have any plecos in the tank with the fish? if so, i would promptly remove them. if the white you are describing looks like translucent scales then it is likely slime-sucking from another fish.

if the fish is having trouble breathing/maintaining balance in the tank, i would recommend moving the fish to another tank where it can breathe more easily and right itself.

PICS would help immensely with diagnosing the problem, and i would highly suggest doing that before taking any other course of action--

Sorry to say that but I think your fish has a slim chance of living.

How can you determine that without even knowing the problem?

As stated by Solomon get some photos up. It is very difficult to determine the problem with the information provided thus far..

hey guys thanks for the info unfortunately it was a little to late, my gar didn't make it but another hour or so after i posted, but i do think it was the "slime-sucking" that solomon referred to, or at least that is pretty much what it looked like.
