Something is wrong with my tank. It has been running for a couple of years. About a month ago suddenly all the fishes in the tank died. All I had in there are neons and tetras. So i keep trying to add new fishes in there but they all died within introduction. I have a 56 gallon tank running on two Aquaclear 70. Reading on the water test is ammonia 0 nitrate 20. Any ideas guys as to what is going on?

:welcome: to MFK!

First of all, I would question your test kit's reliability. What brand of test kit do you use? What are the last four digits written on the top cover of the box if this is API? Are you using test strips or liquid? Your fish are dying mysteriously yet your test kit continues giving the same satisfactory results which is ironic to the resulting deaths. When did you last test the water? Were these reading done before or after the fish died? Do you have a test result from your local water company?

What other fish did you try? What species are your other tetras? What symptoms did you observe on the fish before they died? Where did you buy your fish? What is the temperature of the tank currently? I need your tank maintenance regimen schedule, food menu, brand of heater used and photos of your setup. Posting a history of your tank setup doesn't hurt at all. I may have time tomorrow to analyze your situation here and find out what is causing the deaths.

Hope this helps.

It is the API test stip and the ammonia drip test kit. I test it every week before i introduce the new fish in the tank. I do a water change every week around 30 percent. tetras are the blood tetras bleeding heart tetras and some neons. I do see them gasping for air on top and wobbling before they die. Most of my fish are from lfs around the area. Stealth heaters. recent ones that i try adding are danios which died in a couple of hours in the tank.

How did you acclimate the new fish to the tank?

have you done any new cleaning with spray cleaners. or maby a air freashener that sprays once and a while. my girl lost a small tank to that once. could be anything. goos luck on finding out whats going on

anything new with your tapwater sometimes the water company adds new stuff mine just started chloramines so i had to make sure to use a chloramine remover
