Looking to get a heater or heaters for my 150g tank. Wanted to hear some opinions on what I should get. Wondering what people have found to be the best through their experience. Thanks.

I use Visi Therm Stealth heaters exclusively...

I use 2W per gallon for keeping the water at 80*F in a home with an air temp that is no cooler than 65*F...

My Stealth heaters keep my tanks very stable when used in this way..

Using a stronger heater than necessary can/will cause the heater to wear out faster, can'will use more electricity and holds the potential to cook the fish...

So if I were to get two 150w heaters, that would do the trick?

For a 150, ditto on the Stealth. I would go with 2x250 watt, which will give you just over 3 watts/gallon..but depending upon the location, 2 w/gal may be sufficient.

I use a single 250 W heater in my 125 gal... I would probably use a single 250W in a 150 gal also...

I don't personally subscribe in the two heaters is better than one philosophy... but if you do then yes I would suggest two 150W heaters...

I use visi therm stealth in all of my tanks but one (Long story it has a Hydor which is doing its job fine) I highly recommend them .

Why do you think two heaters is not better than one?

If you use a thermostat control that your heaters plug into then two heaters is fine, but in my opinion of little benefit... otherwise...

I think a tank should have enough circulation to keep the water a single constant temperature... This has many good effects...

If a tank is so darn huge that it takes more than one conventenial sized heater, then I would put them in different locations.

It is excpetionally difficult to set two heaters to the exact same temperature. Just because the dial on both is set at exactly 80*F doesn't mean both heaters are in perfect calibration with one another...

So if you use two heaters that added together are 'enough' wattage... then one will likely be the workhorse and the other will only kick on occasionally.

If each heater is large enough to heat the tank on it's own, then your purchasing double equipment without need or benefit. This also adds a piece of equipment in the tank you have to look at and/or hide the cord of. This also adds a piece of equipment in the tank that if fails, fish die.

In practical reality, I just don't see the benefit... and feel that most of the claimed benefits only take place in ideal theories and not in practical reality...

...Although I'm sure you will find others who disagree :D

I see your point, so i would have to get a 300-350 watt heater to be enough for a 150g tank?
