i've been having trouble finding a bedding for a savannah monitor, people recomended soil/sand mixed together but all of the soil i could find had fertilizer and i'm not comfortable taking it from outside. Would a mix of sand and that plantation soil be an ok substitute?

I think it would be alright. There isn't a garden store in your area that sells organic soil? Do you have access to dig soil from an area that hasn't been sprayed with pesticides/herbicides?

i would use sand and a mixture of dry hay/leaves but thats just me. no wood chips for reptile IMO

The plantation soil looks and feels like soil with a bit of coconut fibre mixed in.

that would be fine but I think you will see that it will make a huge mess. I would recommend plain old cypress mulch. It will retain humidity and heat and it is easier to clean and very inexpensive. you can also use peat moss (it is sold at most hardware stores and is usually organic unless noted otherwise on the package) but as with all soils, it will not look very nice with a messy animal like a sav. Trust me, it will get everywhere.
