There are alot of substrates you could use. It depends on your setup and how much you want to spend but for a 10 gallon you could use the expensive stuff and still not break the bank. I would use ADA aqua soil, Eco-complete, or Florite. But there are others that with the right setup can work very well. Soilmaster, Turface MVP, pool filter sand, Shultz aquatic soil. Give us more info like... Lighting, Ferts, Co2, and what plants you want and we can better help you.

This thread has died, but it's very similar to questions I have.

I plan on doing a 30 gallon planted. I will have at least 3 watts per gallon of light, but that's the only thing I have settled in my mind. I want to find a long tank rather than a deep tank. If I have to dance around the 30 gallon figure, that's fine.

I plan on adding some substrate. Maybe Laterite or Flourite. Any preferences? Is there anything else I should keep in mind during the set up of this tank?

This is the first tank I've started with the intent to plant, and I want to do it right. WWAD?
