Hi

I have a 2 1/2 foot Silver Arowana who has swollowed a suction cup with the plastic clip attached about 3 days ago

We have netted him in the hope that he would spit it out but he did not

He is not eating very well so obviously he is having some problems with it. His poo is white and runny which is not normal either

Does anyone know how we could get it out otherwise he may die

Sorry to hear that. I had my aro do that once but luckily I caught it in time as the piece was stuck in its mouth. I ended up netting its head until it spit it up. I'm not sure what you could do being that your aro swallowed it.

i would release him.. i think netting him will stress him out.. i think he has a better chance if you let him remain active.. maybe he will dispel it or it will pass through.. i wish you both luck..

He ight just get sick like throw up My Silver Arowana did that when my brother threw a Prawn with the shell on into the tank he got sick a puked it up :)

Normally, you could feed him something fiberus to help him "pass" it...(cooked peas, etc)...I mean can you see the item lodged in his system? My arowana in college ate everything that moved (including inedible items) and he always just passed them/digested them...fish have very quick digestive systems, usually passing food within the day? If he is indeed 2 1/2 feet it would have to be a big ol' suction cup to cause problems...I doubt the quality of suction cups is that high that it cannot be broken down...worst case scenario is you'll have to find an aquatic vet (call the zoo) and they could operate to remove the blockage, or at least they might x ray him? Who knows, that's probably gonna take some money though...

oh.. thats sounds scary.. haven't been a situation like this and hate to be in one.. give it some time mate.. and prob dont stress the fish.. i'm sure the aro will try to regurgitate it.. jus keep a close watch.. and are there any tank mates along with your aro? tc..

WOW, i dont know about "passing it thru" thats big pieces to "pass thru" and its plastic and rubber, its synthetic stuffs and can't be processed by nature.
is it worth it to bring it to the aquatic vet for you?

its happen to my cousin' rtc.... he passed away a few days ago

in last summer, he ate a lot of shells accidently (cos of my cousin who fed him accidently). we couldn't get these shells out of his belly so my cousin just leave him alone.....

he havent eat any foods since july 2010.... cos his digestion is not good....

i am not rude to your arowana. i am just saying.......your arowana will be survive for a few months but he will be starve to death like my cousin's rtc

regards

Look for a vet that works with fish. If you're in BC, maybe contact the Vancouver Aquarium and see if they can suggest someone.

is this plastic thing big or small.... i think its stuck in his stomach....
try to get him and put him on the clean towel......you need to open his mouth careful( arowana got wider mouths though). when you open his mouth, you will need to put bright light into his mouth. check if there plastic thing. if its plastic then you will need to get long picker thing.

hope this will be help
