i have a spiny eel and he likes to like sit behind the heater against the wall near the surface, the temperature is 78 degrees so its not too cold for him... should i be concerned? he doesn't get stuck because if anything goes near him he speeds away.

i would have it at 80F... and make sure he can't jump out of the tank.

I would worry about the heater burning it. as for the temp.. it's fine. I keep all my spineys between 72-78 w/out issue. Offer it more hideing spots in your tank. it is liekly acting this way due to some form of aggression from tank-mates or insufficent hideing spots.

nooo he only has one jack dempsey as a tank mate, and they don't bother eachother, they both have there own hiding spot. the JD stays in his hollow tree thing and the eel stays in the castle. but now he's all messed up but no one will reply to that thread...
