Very bad idea.

That is not true at all, they will grow and grow until the tank breaks. Then they will take every opportunity to relieve you of your fingers. So not beginner friendly. At all.

Something like a Russian Tortoise would be a much better option.

Chiapas Giant Musk Turtle: Staurotypus salvinii i was interested in 1 of these as well. turtles are really cool.

Wherever you heard that I suggest to not listen to them anymore...

Mud and musk turtles are the best options for a first turtle. Snappers are very aggressive and demand a ton of food and space. Turtles are also not something you would want to hold or play with- they should be display only. If you want something similar to handle, I suggest tortoises like the russians that were mentioned. Box turtles can also be handled to an extent as well as wood turtles and other non- aquatic turtles. Red foot tortoises are great but they get a little larger (2 feet or so).

Try fitting one of these in a 20L turtle tank...

He's a common, but its pretty much the same thing. He is also small compared to others I have seen and caught.

I can't stand that "only as big as their tank" BS. I have seen so many American alligators sold using that because the seller wanted to make a sale and the buyer didn't know better.

so i did a lil more research after every1 was talking about sizes and what not. i read itll take somewhere in the ball park of 10 years for it to reach a carapace length of 10"? for any1 who owns a snapping how big of a tank are we talkin? over 200 g? tortoises appear to be difficult to maintain with the varyin humidity levels and basking temperatures? any sites you suggest for clear cut info ?
