HELP!!

I adopted a foot long pleco today that someone dropped off at petco. He seems fine and shuffles around the bottom of my 100 gallon. But he has this growth I guess? Coming off one of his fins the petco guy said they "poked it around and it is for sure attached." And that it was some kind of "fungus tissue growth". Can anyone please help me figure out what it is good or bad and what I should do about it? I had to save the poor guy from that joke of a tank at petco and I am sure he is much happier in his New 100 gallon home I just want to make sure the big guy is ok.

wow that looks strange..does not look like "fungus tissue growth" what ever that might be..looks like a strange growth of fins? i dunno hopefully someone with more experience will chime in
 
maybe post in the fresh water Illness and disease section?
