Ok so me and my friend are redoing this lady's 55 gallon. We built and delivered the stand and today we are draining the tank putting sand and decor in the tank, and putting the new filter in. Well,the problem is.... I told her not to buy fish yet and,she called and told me that she bought the fish today. Wtf? So can anyone tell me what to do to not overstress the fish? I'm going to keep all the drained water in buckets and cycle the new filter with the old one.

Is there anything else I should do?

Throw on seeded filter or media. Check params should be ok, change water in 5-6 days.

^^just for now run the new filter with old media. Old water does nothing; throw that away.

New filter won't be seeded unless there is an ammonia source, so unless you are dripping ammonia in the setup, leaving it empty does nothing.

Make sure the water temperature is right, Monitor NH3, NO2 levels and do water changes or use prime as emergency if needed.

Should be fine. What fish did she get?

Tell her to feed only once a day, or every other day.
