Yesterday he stayed at the same corner at the bottom of the tank, and today he's doing the same thing. I realized today that the temperature of the tank was low and that my heater had broke, so I rushed to get a new one in. I'm now fixing the temperature problem and it's going back to normal.

My Oscar, however seems sick. Recently, I've noticed him "coughing". Literally his mouth moves in "cough" as humans do. Try to see this in your mind.

I'm assumig that he has a parasite, either internal or external so I took home Parasite Guard by Tetra. It's 8 tablets to treat 80 gallons, and my tank is 75.

Should I go for it and use this medication on the tank? I can't stand to see my fish like this, and I'm also scared that the Parasite Guard could do more harm than good. I have noticed stringy loosely hanging "worms" on my fish but I could be mistaken and it could be just extra slime coat.

I've added salt today - enough for the full 75 gallons yet nothing has changed.

I know this "coughing" is not normal as I've never witnessed this before and I've had my Oscar for a long time now.

Another thing - the carbon in my filter is "built in" with my filter cartridges. The carbon has been there for so long that I'm hoping it no longer will remove any medications.

I've also included a picture of what seems to be black dots around the gill area? Please tell me what you think.

Thank you.

Ammonia is 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 160-200 ( I know it's high, but since yesterday I've done about 50% water change )
pH 6.2 ( I don't know why it's this low, my water in my area is usually around 8. Perhaps it's the driftwood in my tank that has been leeching out. )
