Mike, assuming you are correctly copying your image properly from your photo hosting site. It is quite simple.
Click on the icon just above your text posting board (it's the first icon, it looks like a volcano with the sun above it). A window will open. Right click your mouse. The url should appear in your text enclosed with the img brackets.
Preview your post to make sure it's there.

mike, ability to use attachements is something that is available only to Contributing members. It's a "premium" feature. You do have the ability to put photos in your gallery, up to 2mb total. A good place to start is the "APF Gallery Usage Tutorials" section in our Articles. Look at the top Navigation bar for the articles section.
