hi everyone... a friend of mine that live 200 kms away has my retropinnis and he just phoned me saying the fish was looking wierd. because it had the belly red, and the eyes where a bit swallen... plus he's very still.

sounds like some kind of bacteria to me... but never saw a belly getting red... has anyone had this experience?

what to do?

melafix/pimafix...?

thanks

I would stay away from melafix amd pima. They are homeopathic medicine that in my opinion only works as a preventitive.

I would try a broadspectrum antibiotic such as amoxicillin, tetracyline or ecen erythromyicin.

thanks kory...

so you agree it is some kind of bacteria?

have you ever seen anything like it?

where to get those antibiotics? human pharmacy or lfs?

I would definatley agree it is some type of bacteria. The eyes beeing swollen is the clue I went off of.

You can get most of the meds I mentioned at your LFS. Amoxicillin, which would be my first choice I get from a local vet because in CA it can't be sold over counter any more.

Inject a silverside with Geltek Erythromycin. Good way to treat biological infection.

i agree...and the only other times i use melafix is when the fish has very minor injury, or if the fish is well on its way to recovery after a stronger treatment (such as antibiotics) when i feel that the stronger meds is no longer needed.

and like kory said, broad spectrum antibiotics is what i would use in your case. and yes the red belly is an indication of bacterial infection.

i've never seen these broad spectrum antibiotics......your guys's lfs carry them? i know i've never seen mine with them.
