Hey guys been awhile.....sorry just got good internet yesterday.

We finally got all moved in our new farm house in centeral Kentucky.
I had to sell most my tanks...Sooo Sad !
All my fish are in good homes..I miss them terrible

Well,... I gave up my city life for country liv'in :headbang2

I was spoiled with broad band internet before. Now I have a much slower connection.Went all the way back to stone age, drive me crazy, slow *** dial-up...WOW I forgot how slow that was...:irked:
I could not even load pics !
I am now settling for DSL which is better than dail-up.

Ok now to get to the point.
On my new farm and right next to the house is a huge beautiful stocked pond ! What am looking for is tips for the care and feeding for this pond.
We are poor from the move and having 6 kids keeps us low on funds.
Cheap ways to manage the pond is a must.

I am a lover of DIY so if I can build or recycle to get what I need I will.:D

We have fished out of the pond bass, pumpkinseed bluegills and catfish.

If anyone has dock build Ideas or how to build one please jump in here.

Picture time;
I love taking pictures off the pond water.Sunsets are awesome here.

You can see the garden in front of the pond in this picture.
No worries no chemicals used in this garden that could pollute the pond.

Thanks for your time all tips and comments welcome

WOW,being that I only have an 80gallon drop in shell type of pond I'll have to concede that you are lightyears away from my level and I would'nt know where to begin with maintaining that body of water.Beautiful pictures and good looking family though, you could probably do some snorkeling in that pond.Good move also,I would jump at the chance to move out of the city.

Thanks

The water is not clear enough for snorkling..LOL.
I never thought to try that hahaha I get funny mental pictures of trying.

I am thinking that getting oxygen into the water during hot wheather will be my biggest problem. But not sure I really need it or not ??
Also feeding the fish what,how much,how often..ect...

I think water quality is not going to be an issue with that big of a pond. Like you mentioned, the lack of oxygen when it is hot will probably be the biggest concern. I don't know what you can do though. I have seen some fish pond farms where they hook up an engine and have some turbine looking thing turn in the water to keep oxygen in the water. This probably isn't a very practical solution for you though :(

Put some lime in the Pond this winter and then fertilize it during the year next year to keep the food chain in good shape.

Why don't you build a Deck up against the pond instead of a Dock. Even let it hang out over the water a couple of feet.

Also you could get a pump to spray to help with any oxygen issues in the hottest part of the year and maybe use the same pump to irrigate your garden with some pond water. The Nitrates would give those veggies a treat.

I use floating fingerling catfish feed. Its small enough for the bream to eat and has more protein than the regular catfish feed.

If you can add some forage fish then the bass would not eat as many of your bream.

The shiners at the bait store would work, add them in the spring and they will spawn in the summer and help feed the bass.

Just imagine how big a tiger muskie or some type of gar would grow to be in there, but one of those would eat up the other fish.
