dood, tthey get 3'. at 8" you will have plenty of time to bond with it. i have the albino variant, and as much as i want to recomend them to people i try to hold myelf back due to the commitment needed for these fish. you do understand what you would be getting yourself into correct?

well i dont have experience with this species yet but im no, o i have a goldfish and i want to try my luck with h. wyckii lol. and are you sure about the size because ive heard of them maxing at 28"

ive had numerous big catfish including a 20" rtc. it was a cool fish but it wasnt appealingto me because everyone and their mom has one. i want somthing different.

"i have the albino variant" - doubt it - I suspect that you have an albino asian redtail.

As far as I am aware there are no albino wykii in captivity -

I have never seen a wykii of less than 5" in more than 20 years - they are not collected and imported at such small sizes - 8" is a good size fish to get anyway - growth is fairly slow so you'll have plenty of time with it.

I agree that 28" - maybe 30" is the max for the species - still a big fish but most won't even get as close as 24".

With regard to temperament - it varies greatly between fish - but the reputation for aggression should be recognised before housing with tank mates (although I have kept a few in community tanks).

They are pretty hardy so as long as your not offering extremes of temp, ph, water hardness etc it should be okay - feed a wide range of meaty and fishy foods - and make sure that you have decent filtration.

aquascapeonline.com has some for sale at 7 inches. I had a ARTC but have always wanted one on these guys also.

thanks, i thought that guy was talking about an artc cause 3' didnt sound right. but i already have a 150g setup and it'll be living alone. thanks for the info, now if anyone could help me find one...

sorry confused the h. wyckii with h. wyckioides. asian redtails max out at about 3'. whereas wyckii max out at about 2' 6". upon further learning i figured out that the so called albino asian redtail cat is not h. wyckioides at all, but it is h. nemurus. wich will not exceed more that 2'. i hate comon names. they screw everything up. what are the dimmensions of you 150g? i obviously know the tank will be fine for a smaller hemibagrus for a long time, but i dont know if the foot print of the tank may be suitable for life. anyway sorry for that misleading info. i actually posted a thread last night to clarify things after reading this thread. again, i apologize, and i will try to be more on top of things from now on. if you have anymore questions, i would be happy to try to help you out as best i can, and so will all of the MFK family. good luck with everything!

I agree with everything you've said here, but I would like to add that I did see one less than 5" (probably 3.5-4") at a pet store we visited two weeks ago at the MFK meet in Minneapolis. Granted, I rarely see this fish for sale at all and they only had 1, but very small specimen are out there for sale.
