Ok i am getting a spawning pair of Hemichromis elongatus i am either going to put them in a 40 breeder , a 55, a 90 or a 125 gal my question is if i put them in a 125 gal what would be a good tankmate or two i was thinking about a butti or maybe a grammode, i am open for suggestions, or could Tilapia snyderae work. Thanks in advance

In a 125 alot of tilapia would work, I like the butti idea though, I've always wanted to try that combo

good luck

I think any of the larger species will work, my personnel favorites are T. rendalli, T. mariae and T. zillii and they are three of the more commonly found species (at least around here) but I like almost all Tilapia, Oreochromis and Sarotherodon

i have a tilipia mariae but i do not know how to sex them , but i have one and he does not look like he can handle his own, but i like the tilipia zilli

Hello cornbread,

I started with eight WC H. elongatus a few months ago. A pair has formed recently, and they are becoming more aggressive towards the others.

This is my first breeding pair and it's my understanding that a breeding pair will not tolerate tank mates. Have you seen other pairs with tank mates?
