Hi'

I've noticed Wildwoods have Hemisorubim platyrhynchos for sale, they their description advise's they mix with rays in the wild however according to PlanetCatfish these live up to 22oC water which is presume is too cold for rays?

Anyone had experience of mixing the two?

I've had this species several times during my life and i have to say they are a very interesting and unusual Shovelnose species. Its common name is a Porthole shovelnose which refers to the many ocelli that run along the length of the body.Unlike most shovelnose cats from South America these cats generally top out between 15-18" in captivity, indeed i've never witnessed a wild one any larger than this either.
These are not the fastest growing shovelnose so unless they are of a good size then they will be a target for large rays given the fact they are quite sedentary and don't venture far from the bottom of the aquarium floor. My guess is these cats are less than 20cm so would be best housed with small rays and let them grow up together.
Regarding the temp,i've always kept them between 75-78 deg F,never had any issues with this.
Good luck.

Cheers for the information :) the one at wildwoods is 25-28cm so a fairly decent size, my larger ray is at tops a 14inch disc so should be ok. I'll query with Keith on what it's feeding on as dont have time to be trying to convert them.

If you don't mind me asking ... you say you've had them a few times, why did you get rid?

Its 20 plus years ago since i kept them!..my memory isnt that good lol!!..i don't generally get rid of anything, never bought a fish for my collection with the thought of moving it on quickly, circumstances often dictate the reason for moving fish on.I probably had them 5 years plus before moving them on,you can only learn about a fishes habits by keeping it long term,i don't have any bad memories of this species thats for sure.
Regarding feeding if your struggling to get them to eat then try earth worms, they can't resist em.
