Yesterday i for sure thought this little male henlei was going to die,he was showing signs of death "ie" disc starting to curl up,freaking out swimming all over the place extremely heavy breathing.
People you all said use salt. The henlei is in my sump tank.I disconnected the sump from main tank and recirculated water through it and added salt.He infact looked like he was going to die yesterday so somebody gave me a crazey idea of salt bath for a few minutes in extremley salty water.I looked at the henlei his disc was starting to curl up,i had nothing to loose to try this.I had a 5 gallon bucket with very salty water inside i put the henlei in for 3-4 minutes than put him back in the tank.It seemed like nothing happened he was going to die in my mind.I left the sump recirculating for a few hours with salty water than reconnected to the main tank and flush fresh water back into tank.I woke up early this moring he was calm,i thought maybe he had died.later this morning i droped earth worms in and he went for it.he has eaten this morning but not alot. Some black worms too.I think that the salt bath saved the ray i added a pound and a half of salt to the 300 gallon system afterwards. This was a expriment i had nothing to loose the ray is going to be replaced or rembursed if it dies anyways.Something to think about.Next time you have a ray disc curling and freaking out give it a salty bath i mean salty for 5 minutes i think this worked out.we will see how he is in a weeks time.ammonia may have damaged him internal how can you fix this!!!

Add the salt to your tank...not to give your henlei an extreme salt bath for a couple minutes...1.5 pounds does NOTHING to your 300 gallon tank...you're suppose to add 1.5 pounds per 100 gallons, not 300. Then add the other 1.5 pounds per 100 gallon the next day.

i added 2.5 lbs yesterday in total slowly and today i will add more.Do you think water change is nessecary if my water is pristine already

yeah you should have just add salt to the tank, the salt bath may shock your ray or burn it. WC is a must and do it often.

BTW dissolve the salt before you add it to the tank, don't just add in.

The more you move a fish when its sick, the bigger the chance of it dying...You might as well have just dumped all 9 pounds of salt into your 300 gallon, the whole point of adding salt slowly is so you dont shock your rays with the salinty level. You just decided to bathe your henlei in really salty water (shock#1) then stick it back in normal freshwater after a couple minutes (shock#2), very bad idea...

How's the ray now ? Is it still curling?

Even though u did not dose the whole tank initially, What u did seemed to help, especially as it strted to eat after.....

Keep us posted.

the salt bath helped it eat later that day about 12 hours after.and no more disc curl.i realize that the salt bath would stress it out but it was so ***ked that i dont think he realized what even happened or cared. He was on the verge of death for sure.but i cannot get him to eat again.I added the salt today i bought water softner salt from homedepot and ground it up.It says 99.8% pure evaporated salt
