I was wondering if anyone has had some experience with these guys. There has been one at the local store for a while and it is starting to grow on me. I looked up some info online and it was not that great and kind of conflicting. Also does anyone know how fast they grow and how difficult it is to get them off of live food? Thanks for the info

They are great fun, do not grow that quickly, but will usually get over 12". Not very aggresive in a big tank but very predatory and any fish small enough to fit in its mouth can become lunch. I don't feed mine any live food what so ever, he eats pellets ,fish fillets and shrimp. If you have a big enough tank I say go for it.

Great fish, very interesting to watch. A definate predator, but not at all difficult to wean off live foods. Mine eats anthing meaty (smelt, shrimp, krill, and occassionally feeders). I wouldn't call it aggressive, but mine does have an attitude and sometimes will chase its tankmates, though luckily, no one has been injured. These suckers have some serious hardware in those jaws! Growth hasn't been anything to brag about, 2" in the last year (grew from 11" to 13").

had one he was about 10" he was mean when i first got him when he was about 5 inches but after i put in my clown knife he got timid i dont know why but he would def. kill some fish awesome fish to watch

i owned one he was mean as hell when he was the king of the tank then i put in a bigger fish and he just calmed down

they are great fish.. i've got one around 7" now and eats market shrimp :)

i've heard they get aggressive when they grow big and they max at around 16-18" so make sure put tankmates that can handle themselves :)

I've had one of these fish (about 12") for a few years in his own tank. I tried putting him with my Gar, 2 red tail barracuda(10") and my silver aro(24") in my 70 gal but he was terrorizing everyone and even ripped one of my aros whisker things off. They are now in a 140, do u think he might get along better in the larger tank with more space?
