Hello,
I'm trying to minimize CO2 loss and would like to move from the Durso standpipe to a Herbie setup. My problem is I have 2 built in overflow boxes that only have a single 1" bulkhead a piece. Whoever manufactured the tank separated each overflow with a baffle that severely limits the space to put any other bulkhead. My only thought around this would be this: Can I use the left overflow box, with the 1" bulkhead as the full siphon and use the other overflow box on the other side of the tank as the emergency drain? Thanks in advance.

Depends on pump size and drain size. If the one full siphon can keep up I'd say it would be fine. I have a 1" full siphon that can keep up with a mag drive 12 and could still handle more.

Yes, if it can keep up with your pump.
You can also drill the back of the tank and put an elbow near the top of the tank in the overflow box for an emergency drain, that's how I have my 225.

Has anyone out there ever done this? It seems like it'd work but I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with an entire overflow box as an emergency drain. Thanks.

It will work. Just run your return over the back of the tank and use the two holes for the herbie. One for the drain and one for the emergency overflow.

The returns aren't in the overflow box. The tank is acrylic and there are bulkheads on the top for the returns. Each overflow box just contains a single, one inch bulkhead. Does that change any of your thoughts Pharaoh? I'd have to use the left overflow box for the siphon and the right for the emergency. This shows how far apart they are.

Why don't you just drill another hole inside the box on the bottom of the tank?

That's the problem. There is no room. The maker put a partition in the overflow. There is only room for the single 1" bulkhead in each overflow. This is the tank now so it's pretty tough to access anything so I'm looking to work with what I have.
