I am in the stages of planning my setup. I have a 220 gallon with 2 corner overflows and want to set up the herbie method. My question is where does everyone put the gate valves? By the overflow or by the sump? I have seen it both ways. Is there a difference? Which one is better? Thanks for the help.

I prefer by the sump. The gate valve is there to help restrict the flow until the overflow pulls enough air out to be full siphon. It’s helps purge the air faster being closer to the sump.
