Hi caught this couple years ago on the louisianna gulf coast (off barrier islands south of Houma and chauvin la) It was 41 inches and 39 pounds. They are delicous on the grill but i just could not do it, had to take it to the taxidermist. I had to beat those hungry cajuns back with a oar LOL. It was the biggest fish ever caught in my family. I had to be able to rub it in to my dad who would never take me on serious fishing trips cause i was a girl !! caught on crab (Being from mi i wanted to eat the bait LOL) . I married a ragin cajun and love to go fishing down there. I have also caught but dont have pics from back then :2 4-5 foot black tip reef sharks, 6 derby sized drum, numerous stingrays (those are tiring), 72 speckled trout in one hour (3people fishing with three hooks ea in the surf ), numberous other bull reds, catfish. Had no luck with tarpon or cobia but there is still time LOL.

Now that we live in Northern ny i fish for large and small mouth bass and northern pike. (I also like a nice perch fry. Have not learned to walleye fish yet but that is next. Not bad for a girl who didnt go fishing till she was 25 yrs old.

here it is, enjoy:

Nice red, too bad you cant keep them that size any more. You are right they are TASTEY! My favorite is blackened. I have some family from Slidell and damn can they cook!

great catch cichlid girl. you guys should make another trip down here. the fishing is really startn to heat up now

Hey jackel. My husbands family is from Houma. They live just off the road that goes to chauvin, on the edge of town right by bourg. Small world. My hubby graduated in 86 and his sister in 84 I think. His parents were born there and have lived all their life there. They have a camp by cocadrie (sorry for the spelling) The camp looks so different than it did 18 years ago when i first saw it. Camp is on the water now when before it was way back in the marsh . Its all open water and oil wells now. I think they waited to long to save the barrier islands in that area now. Couple more storms and it will be on the road. So sad.Small world though.

nice love how u put that crab in the mouth

Yeah, we asked if he could do that. He didnt want to cause he thought the legs would break off over time. been five yrs now. So far so good.

yea cichlid girl, the coastal erosion down here is just plain nuts. places i used to paddle out in the marsh, and fish small islands are all open water now. but the fishing is still really good. kinda strange, the speck fishing is actually better after katrina. and the fishing in cocodrie is awesome as usual. if the inlaws have a camp down there they lucky. love it down there. actually may make a trip there this sun. to go fishing. you right small world clicked on this thread to see your red fish. didnt know it came from my own dack yard. tell the husband i said hi, from one cajun to another. hope you guys get a chance to come down to fish again soon. the specks and reds are really hitting. and tell the hubby its crawfish season. i know he must be missing eating them by now.
