My Red tiger Severum has weird swimming behaviors. At first I thought it was a swim bladder issue but now I'm thinking it a style of swimming he uses to get closer to smaller fish. He swims normal all the time but occasionally I would notice him turn on his side and float more than swim and some times swim in a downward spiral.
So I've noticed he only does it when trying to attack smaller fishes. He turns on his side approaches the fish lifeless and when close bursts forward and perseus the fish swimming lighting fast and normal. He does this throughout the day to all his tank mates. And I assume he has been eating the saemese algae eaters as I have a few that dissapeared completely. Has anyone esle seen this behavior?

I have witnessed predatory fish that will sneak up on prey but never seen this in a severum.
I would like to see it.
It would be nice if you could get it on video.
I know easier said then done.

Beautiful sev BTW.
Thank you I will try to get a video he is a Hero Severus wild caught from Rio curare also called red tiger severum, or banded cichlid. But he doesnt do well with other species of his own kind ove tried and he is to much terratorial. Actually I have not 100% identified the sex of the fish. This guy has potential to reach 10-12 inches max but they usually average out at about 8-9". I can't wait to grow him out. When I get a video up I will share it.
