Herichthys Carpintis - NEW ULTIMATE BLUE UMBEE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To specify, many of the species being sold as "Escondido" are in fact, electric blues ? Or Escondido x Rio Hondo or even blatant Red Texas / SRT crossed.

following for interest.

personally I'm a huge proponent of never mixing catch locations. (or at least, in fish where they vary significantly with catch location) that perhaps goes hand in hand with generally disliking hybrids though? they're not my cup of tea

whereas many who keep/breed carpintis are probably interested in hybrids. so many of them similarly may not be bothered about keeping their strains of fish pure.

and I will clarify in advance I don't mean that negatively about any hybrid guys out there who take it seriously and are the real deal.

I think many people are starting to throw location tags on a fish as a gesture of quality when it's not necessarily true. You see some really high quality fish that have come out of Rio Hondo and Esconido, but it doesn't make them all so. I personally don't much care where a carpintis is from. I'm not buying one because it came from Escondido. I buy because it's a nice specimen. If it's proven from a certain location, great, use the tag. We are talking about carpintis here. One of the most commonly found and easy to breed cichlids in the US. Tons that have been crossed and inbred. Very small percentage can be proven from a catch location when you look at the overall picture. But they're are sources to get then from different location if one desires.

Carpintis do vary in color, spots/worms, and so on. In nature and captive bread. If you're dealing with a nice strain like Dan's Rio Hondos from COTA, and crossing it with a green texas/vontehillo strain with small spots I lose interest. If you're still calling it Rio Hondo than it's just dumb.

What is an electric blue? Sounds like a common name or advertisement used for H. Carpintis like Royal green terror.

RT/SRT is a whole different ball game. Purposely crossed and hybridized for certain traits. Creating a fish that doesn't exist naturally. I guess you're into it or your not.

true

Always best to buy from a reputable source that has fish with provenance back to a known collection location. Problem solved.

I'm quite confident that I own an H. carpintis "Escondido", but I wouldn't bet my life on it. lol

Here's what you're talking about... meh they're not really that bad.

It appears you recently joined the site a few days ago and already you're causing a stir, let's get right into it aye. Sounds to me like you got quite the agenda...Well I can't say you didn't come to the right place ;) you'll find plenty of the type of responds you're looking for right here. (Although I do find it a bit odd that you're new here but seem to know all about Ultimate Blues, Electric Carpintis and crosses etc etc...) my guess is you're not really a new comer at all and you've been around the cichlid game a bit.
