Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they similar in all aspects to the other Herichthys species? Thanks in advance.

For all practical purposes you can treat it like any other Carpinte. At some point in the future it will more likely be described as a separate species. Juan Miquel is credited with discovering the fish. It was collected in the Rio El Salto, Panuco drainage in San Luis Potosí [Mexico]. What makes it a unique (and probably why the fish evolved to be a bit different than the Carpinte) is that the river is isolated from the other Panuco drainage.

It's body shape is more of a riverine variant of the Carpinte. The green dots don't go as far back along the body and the peduncle is more elongate. Really nice fish.

Here's a photo of an F0 specimen that belongs to me. Unfortunately I only have one left. Feed them the typical diet....try to include more of the vegetable based food and less of the protein. Like lots of the labridens found in the same (or close) water sheds, they can be prone to bloat.

Home that helps

Here are some pictures of a pair I use to have and the male in his breeding colors. They were not a very aggressive fish, I kept the with severums, geos, and some Psits.
