I have a pair of adult Herichthys sp. turquoise that spawned recently for the third or fourth time. The male shows all the signs of being male in regard to his body except that his breeding tube is thicker than what I've seen in other CA/SA cichlids; even those four to five times his size. As far as I can tell, no wigglers have ever resulted; just opaque, white eggs after a day or so. I suspect that it might be two females, but the "male" just doesn't look like a female in any way. At first, I just chalked the infertility up to inexperience, but now I'm questioning that.

Any ideas?

You answered your own question. The only way we can help you is pics. Because its either female or a male with a big....
Doesnt matter how well you know Herichthys.

Pics of the fish are not necessary to answer the general question. Please refrain from answering if you don't know Herichthys well enough to answer going off of the description and information I've given.

Well that was quite rude. First I didn't actually see a specific question in your original post.
-Are you wanting to know if it's possible for 2 female Herichthys to pair up and attempt to spawn?
-Are you wanting to know if a female could be bulkier in size and take on physical attributes (such as body shape, girth, etc) of a male when there is no true male around?
-Are you asking if a male could have an oversized tube that would have an appearance closer to a female's?
-Are you asking if your specific fish is a male or female?

A picture of the fish would be helpful to answer any of these questions, particularly the question of the fish's gender.

I'm not sure what the reason was for the reply you gave to buddha1200 but you came here asking for help. Giving off such attitude when someone replies with a reasonable answer is no way to get people to want to help you. ;)

Wow...nice jacka$$ response and a great way to not get your question answered.

Your "question" (as unclear as it is...) COMPLETELY requires a picture as, obviously, relying on your description of the fish is worthless because you dont even know Herichthys and you have the fish in question.
