A friend who “supposedly” collected and brought back some fishes from Mexico gave it to me late last year. I've seen him bring back legit wild caught cichlids before but this particular fish I'm not sure of? I'm not an expert but this fish looks like a hybrid to me. A hybrid caught in the wild or just BS from a friend? I would have asked him what region it was collected but I no longer have contact with him.

Different angles. Check it out.

i was going to suggest the same thing.
looks like a carpintes hybrid of sorts. i see some bars on the back - maybe festae or midas?
it would be cool if it was a new species though... you only got one from this friend of yours? i think one way to check is see if this guy/gal is fertile? most hybrids aren't... if he ends up breeding with something else, at least you get some free feeder food ;)

She is fertile. Since it's free, my friend only gave me one. He kept all the others that he "brought back". I would say he had atleast 10.

Lol, I think so too :D . I wish to see my friend again so I could show him the fish he brought back :grinno:. It looked like a normal cyanoguttatus when it was smaller though.

Whatever it is it's a goodlooking fish!
