so my neighbor accidentally brought home 2 striped hermit crabs in shells from a florida trip. they gave them to me...
so, what should i do to care for them? ive got a semi-broken 10gal im putting them in, they will be in about 4"-5" or water (or maybe they will go in a spare 5gal ive got, in which case they will be in a tank full of water), with a small internal filter and a heater. theyll have about 3" of sand i think, but the sand may not be added for a while.

Thats all i know.
Please give me some tips on what to feed, decor, etc.!
I want to keep them alive!

sorry for the double post but i cant edit the first one anymore. i now know they will be going into the 5gal. getting aragonite sand eventually as well as live rock. for now, getting salt mix, heater, filter, food, and light.

well i dont know ****aki about hermit crabs, but from what i looked up on google they can be put into saltwater tanks.other than that, idk.buy some food for em and get a little water sponge?

these are fully aquatic crabs, that wont work... thanks though.

Standard pellet or flake food should suffice, though if you want to be really nice you could feed them chunks of fish or shrimp or squid etc, Id suggest both algea and meaty based foods to figure out which they preffer.

i tried feeding them wardley shrimp pellets that i had in my cabinet under the freshwater tank. they ate them, which is good because thats the first time ive seen anything eat those pellets. i will supplement them with algae wafers and occasional seafood i think.

well there is no garenty that they will eat algea, but they mite, and if they do it will be a better diet with both. But they should eat just about anything as they are scavengers for the most part.
