One of my hermit carbs shells seems to have turned white overnight. Before all of their shells were blackish with blotches of purple(coraline algae?). It looks like the same type of shell it had, but only white. I had added more shells to the tank but they were a different shape. Is there anyway this could happen? the shells were pretty encrusted so I don't think a snail or another crab could've cleaned it up that well. The only other possibility I can think of is it somehow found another shell hidden in the live rock. I find that hard to believe but maybe it is the only explanation.

I'll try to post a picture later

Must be a new shell from somewhere in the live rock. Wish I knew where its old one was. Assuming it is a new one, the crab doesn't seem to be moving around as well in this one
