Hello, i recently ordered some spotted sevs from my l.f.s. and went to pick them up today. I know its difficult to determine species at 3/4" long, but there has to be something to differentiate between a turquoise and a spotted severum right? If anyone could explain and maybe even post some pics of comparisons between the two as juveniles i would greatly appreciate it. The only difference i can see so far is the markings on the anal fin but that could mean anything! I am trying to avoid waiting until they are larger to bring them in and tell the owner that this isnt what i wanted.

I've raised a few spawns of F1 notatus fry from my wild pair and they look like any other severum until about 2" or so. Then they'll start spotting up with black spots. Here are mine at 11 weeks. You can see spots around the gills and chest.

In my opinion, it'll be rare for an LFS to get notatus at that size. Most are wild-caught at larger sizes, or tank-bred fry sold by hobbyist breeders in small batches on sites like these. I had a whole tankful a few months ago, and you're not too far from me. Bad timing! :(
