What is in it?

I currently have a load of F1 Heros Sp. Rotkeil fry.

I'm hoping to get 1 maybe 2 pairs out of the batch.

What would be a biotope tank for these guys?

What Substrate, Decor, Plants?

What kind of tank mates? ie: Tetras, bottom dwellers, other Cichlids/fish etc?

I currently have pretty much a empty 100g with a good amount of wood with some Anubuis tied on it and some Java Fern...however, the Sevs are eating the Java Fern so may not be there for long.

Buenos Aires Tetra, Congo Tetra. a blue acara, Festivum.

Surely Congo Tetras are from Congo and Buenos Aires from Argentina not Peru?

I have a large Blue Acara already and was going to buy a Festivum earlier actually :P

I would suggest a sand substrate, driftwood, the plants stand no chance in my experience, some larger smooth stones for spawning sites.

Red Eye Tetra, or lemon tetra, some ancistrus for clean up.

I keep my breeding pair alone in a 90 Gallon, with good places for the female to escape the eventual aggression from the male, it must be sturdy enough and large enough for her to escape completely and remain in there sometimes for a day or two. I have only very small river wash gravel, large river rocks, and driftwood in this tank. It is also highly filtered and current is kept to a minimum, and the temp is above 80 degrees.

So should i stick to 2 pairs?

with loads of wood, pebbles, sand (i'm going to keep trying with the Anabuis Barteri that i have because it has survived adult severums before this)

Should i add 8 Lemon Tetras? (are these found in the same area as the Rotkeils in the wild?)

What fish are they found with in the area of Peru where they are caught?

Tetras from Iquitos, Peru include, Neon, Blue, Emporor & Bleeding Heart also Hatchet Fish are indiginous to the regon.

Anubus is a good plant to use tied to drift wood and PFS mixed with black sand will look nice.

What type of lighting were you thinking of using?

So far i just have the 2 x white t5's that came with the tank, any recommendations?

I heard red and blue lights can make fish colour look a lot better, or would i get the same effect adding some blue leds?

Also how do people get that effect with shadows etc?

Neons would get eaten wouldnt they? by blue do you mean Colombian Blue Tetras?

How about this long term then...

2 x Pairs of Rotkeils
6 Marbled Hatchets
6 Bleeding Heart Tetras

is there any Corydoras, small plec or any small Cichlids from that particular region?

Ie: Rams or Keyholes etc? or even Red Head Tapajos?

If you intend on breeding the fish, the corys will take down the eggs and fry pretty readily. If you go with the hatchets, make sure you have a good lid, they like to carpet surf. I would stay away from the Colombian Tetras as they need cooler water than your Sevs. I kept my pair in the big tank in my signature and only switched them out once I found they could not defend the fry from the Angels and other fish in the tank. I am just speaking from my experience, not from a biotope standpoint.

I found the Orange Heads were great tank mates, as were the P. Scalare angels, and while you are growing the Sevs out the Corys are great clean up. How big are your fry? Do you have any photos?

Wow thanks thats exactly what i wanted :)
