A week ago I moved the heterospila from the 8ft, 135gal to the 6ft, 135gal. The swap gave me a chance to really overhaul their tank decor and namely to change from the mixed black/natural colour gravel they were over in the 8ft to something else (really wasn't a fan of the mixed gravel). I really wanted to do sand, but I hate anything that is that red-brown colour, which was pretty much all I could find. I was trying to avoid "white" sand because I was afraid it would wash them out too much, but also didn't want DARK. After searching for what I had in mind and not coming up with what I wanted, I caved and just used Caribsea "crystal river". While I do really like the look of it, it's done exactly what I was afraid of - the hets and the fenestratus are washed out to hell. It's only been a week and they're crazy skittish, so I'm hoping once they're settled more that they'll darken up a bit...if not I guess I'll keep an eye out for more the mid-toned sand I was originally aiming for and change it up at some point. I'm relatively pleased with the new decor, however. Excuse the horrid photos...they really just will not sit still lol.
