Recently bought 3 Afros and 2 Palmas Pollis(pictures in the Polypterus section). Unfortunately, 2 Afros died because there was a dominant one who gave the both of them hell day and night. I'm just happy that the remaining one has stabilized and is feeding consistently because Afros can be pretty hard to keep. All three are in a 2ft grow-out tank.

Here's the H. Niloticus, my favourite fish.

Awesome shots and very cool little afro. Hopefully he makes it past these fragile stages. Make sure a bichir doesn't grab him. :)

Thanks, she very rarely comes to the front of the tank. Had to go through almost a hundred or so pictures to get the ten i posted. I think Afros aren't aggressive to other species except their own. Which in itself is a pity because i've always wanted a comm. of them. The PPPs are behaving themselves. Feeding these guys 5 cubes of FBW a day.

wow, this is going to be a beauty! keep us updated

Thanks! I have my fingers crossed on her getting to about 10" without a scratch. From there on should be smooth sailing provided i don't screw anything up. They're really fragile at this age.

looks great!! making my fro-fingers itchy again:P

Thanks Alex! Go get another one! Although i doubt your tank will have enough space by the time all your gars(old+new) are fully grown.

My african arowana did not much care for any other arowana species, including silvers and blacks. Would chase them around even when both were similiar sized (16").

So you're saying Afros are aggressive towards other species of fish or not? Mine's very "docile" at the moment. Hope it stays that way. Once she reaches about 10", i'll be comm-ing her in another grow-out(4x2x2) with a Jardini, couple of Albino Senegalus and a C. Micropeltes. Will be making sure they're all about the same size before i do.

Sorry for my weird phrasing... my african arowana was fine with poly's, gar, etc. But it did not like any other arowana species.

I'm sure you are aware of the risk of mixing a Jardini with nearly anything... you are taking a great risk to your african arowana if you mix them in the future.
