i was in the middle of a 14 hour shift last night and decided to impulse buy a 95 gallon acrylic hex (25"x29"x36" high). theyre having a decent sale at petsmart right now and shipping was free as well.

always wanted a hex tank. ive already moved all of my other tanks to the garage, which is quickly becoming a fish room. going to make this tank my main display upstairs, rotating the stock every month or so to keep it interesting.

i want to filter the heck out of this thing and im definitely going to use a sump at least 40 gallons. im leaning towards drilling the bottom but after that its kinda up in the air. i have a fluval sp4 i plan to use for my return pump but thats the only definite thing.

option 1: drill 3 holes, one large drain, im thinking 1 1/2", and one return of 1", somewhere in the middle of the tank. 1 more hole drilled for wires to the lighting and double as an emergency drain.

option 2: 4 holes, same as option 1, but with two smaller returns of 3/4"

option 3: 5 holes. 2 drains, 2 returns, one for wires. i really dont want to drill this many holes. i think it would take up too much space.

anybody with experience working on hex tanks? or just anybody with better ideas? i wanna make this thing pretty so any advice would be appreciated.

tank update. decided to just go with an fx6 for filtration. tank looks great and my stand turned out good too. still have to construct some paneling for the stand and figure some way to conceal the plumbing and heater.20171018_174645.jpg

i was concerned at first the cichlids would all want to crowd the bottom of the tank. everyone seems to utilize the whole tank though. great tank from advance aqua as well. i would recommend them to anyone but definitely wait for that 20% off sale ats petsmart.
