I just purchased a fish tank off of Craigslist and it's a hexagon shaped aquarium so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to measure it.. The person who I bought it off of said it's length is 21" height is 21" and width is 30 1/2"..i cant find out how many gallons it is.. Please help lol the person said it's 25 gallons.. It definitely looks bigger

I believe it is a little over 40 gallons.

Take the length times the width of the main area (20x30=360sq in)

Then take 1/2 the width of the triangular part times the height and then double it to account for both sides (1/2x5x18x2=90sq in)

Add these two areas together (360+90=450sq in)

Now take that area and multiply it by the height (450x21=9450cu in)

Lastly, multiply the 9450cu in times the ratio of .004329 gallons per cubic inch (9450x.004329=40.909 gallons)

You are making it harder then it needs to be think back to trigonometry and similar triangles and one calculation figures it out. Ya I remember back in the day when I thought " why the heck do I need math!" And now I'm a machinist
