I have a question for all of you professionals...

In your experience, do the different species of cichla grow at the same rate? I have read that orinos and kelberis stay smaller, but as far as growth rate... whats the call?

I have 2 orinos, 2 ocells, and 1 mono, all under 4". The mono is the biggest one of the crew, and I was thinking about putting him on the other side of the divider because of the size difference. Maybe feed the orinos and the ocells a little more until they level out?

Or will this prove useless because indeed, some cichla species will grow faster?

Haha does this make any sense?
 
Out of those 3 i would say the orino's grow the slowest for sure. Mono's and occels are pretty similar in growth rates.
 
You should be fine. What orinos give up in growth rate they have in attitude, I have a 8 inch orino with a 19" temensis. He can eat the orino but those O's are tough ( they are well fed, of course.)
 
not sure bud but can u upload pic of your ocell i have 2 babies bout 4" not sure if monos or ocell would be great to compare with ur ocell cheers

One ocell on the left, one on the right. I'm down one Orino... RTC freaked out and broke the divider and had a snack last night... :cry:

One thing i know for sure bein in the Cichla game for a couple years now and raised all but two of mine from fry is we can all talk about what should happen does not mean it will..The only thing for sure is temensis -pinima get very large and much faster i would even have to say Ocell get big fast as well my Orino and Kelberi are around two years old now the Ocell is around 18 inches and the Orino's mostly the same with two slightly smaller yhr girth of the Ocell being much larer then the orino and the kelberi pretty much the same size my point being if you feed them well all of them you will get the growth you are looking for ...Hugh... Oh and dump the RTC or you will pay more dearley from personal experiance HE WILL EAT EVERYTHING!!!!!!

So here's an update...

I may rehome the big mono, and I just bought a few more pbass from John.

So now I will have 3 orinos and 3 ocells. Will the ocells outgrow the orinos fast enough to become a danger to them? Like beat them up? Or possibly even eat them?
 
There are so many factors that effect growth rate.
