I'm new to this forum and have a couple questions about my lungfish. I have had him for sometime ( got him from a rescue) He has been living peacefully with my 2 Oscars and Pleco for sometime now. I have tried to match pictures up, but I'm unclear what kind of Lungfish he is. I think hes some sort of African maybe?

He is 22-24 inches, living with a 11inch and 8 inch Oscar. The Pleco is around 13inches. They are pretty roundish, cause of there spoiled feedings. I havent seen the lungfish give them any never mind, and infact he wont eat anything but sinkable pellets and Algae Wafers

Anywho, I put something in the tank as of late that gave my Oscars the starting of an Ich breakout. I have put some Aquarium Salt in a turned up the temp to help battle it but I cant find any info whether the Lungfish will react badly to it. Its been 4 hours and hes ok so far. haha. The Oscars arent liking it to much, as they "yawn" alot trying to clean there gills I imagine. I will do a 80% water change coming up soon as the bit of ich comes off. The water is hot enough it should only last a couple days.

So once again, Questions

1. Does Aquarium Salt bother Lungfish?
2. What kind of Lungfish do I have?
3. Anyone else have Oscars and Lungfish or em I a just waiting for the

Thank u

And great site btw! :headbang2

First off, I'd like to welcome to you MFK
Secondly, I'd like to apologize because I don't know much about keeping lungfish
and Finally, I should warn youu that lower the tank temperature is the opposite thing you should do during a break out of the Nasties. Warming it up speeds up the life cycle of the parasite (which is good because they can only die from healthy treatmets of salt in the unattached, larval stage).

Alright well anyway, I don't have much experience with keeping lungfish. However, I do know that they are very hardly fish and can probably survive in salinities that your cichlids can handle. (the lakes an rivers they occupy in Africa are pretty salty from mineral dust being blown into it. Just don't fluctuate the pH very much--they are sensitive to that
